Welcome to Muroya

Hello, I’m Yasuko, the hostess of Muroya.

I’ve recently reopened Muroya, a guesthouse located in Hojo, Matsuyama, Ehime Prefecture.

Originally established as Muroya Ryokan about 100 years ago, the inn welcomed many travelers, including those on the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage. Unfortunately, due to a lack of successors at that time, we closed the doors to this historic inn nearly 20 years ago.

With the support of my daughter and son, we embarked on a journey last year to bring Muroya back to life.

While the building retains its original charm from its ryokan days, we’ve made updates to ensure a more comfortable stay for our guests.

Come and enjoy a peaceful and nostalgic retreat at Muroya, where history and tranquility come together.

🌏Our Mission  About Muroya

“Children who can think and express themselves in their own words, wherever they go in the world.”

The mission of Muroya Bilingual Summer Camp is to provide children with experiences that nurture both life skills and a sense of connection to the wider world, within a rich and natural environment.
We value creating a warm and supportive community where children learn to respect themselves, others, a

🌿Bilingual Summer Camp

Muroya was born from a desire to preserve a 100‑year‑old family‑run former inn without tearing it down. As depopulation and an aging society continue to affect rural areas, we hope to pass on the value of this place and its community to the next generation, and to help children take pride in their roots and in the unique strengths of Japan.

Each year, when we return to Japan, warm connections naturally grow through activities such as joining local summer festivals, participating in volunteer work, and sharing locally grown vegetables and fish caught by the children with members of the community. Since last year, the launch of a food truck has further expanded opportunities for children to engage with and contribute to the local area.

Through my work and child‑raising experience in London, I have come to deeply appreciate the importance of thinking, communicating, and making decisions in English. Drawing on these experiences, this camp was created as a safe and supportive place where children can confidently step into a new environment and gain meaningful learning experiences and connections.
